Description

Haven't done this enough lately. I present you, the Passion Flower. (Passiflora picturata I believe, please correct if wrong)

Passion doesn't refer to love, but actually the Christian theological icon of the passion of Christ on the cross. Spanish Christian missionaries discovered the flowers in the 15th and 16th centuries, and adopted its unique physical structures, particularly the numbers of its various parts, as symbols of the last days of Jesus Christ and especially the Crucifixion. The radial filaments represent the Crown of Thorns, the ten petals and sepals represent the ten faithful apostles, the top three stigmata represent the three nails, and the lower five anthers the five wounds.
